Have bananas? Bake a cake!

“What are you going to do with those bananas?” Richard asked Aunty Lissi this morning at breakfast. “They’ve all gotten ripe at once.”

He gave me a wink, and whispered, “Flat Kathy, I think there’s a secret plan afoot, to bake my favourite banana loaf.”

“Oooh!” I exclaimed, giggling.

“Yes, indeed, there is,” admitted Aunty Lissi. “I was hoping that you and Flat Kathy could help me. I wanted to have a freshly-baked banana loaf to serve at teatime.”

Well, we didn’t have to be asked twice.

Under the watchful eyes of Aunty Lissi, we mixed together butter, sugar, eggs, and flour, and added in the squashed bananas.

We stirred it all thoroughly with the electric beater, spooned the dough into the tin, and placed the tin into the preheated oven.

“And now for the best part, Flat Kathy – we get to clean the bowl!” announced Richard, scooping up a fingertip of dough. “Here, try some… It’s called ‘quality control’.”

Ohh, what a taste sensation it was. I was very much looking forward to teatime.
