I have been feeling rather lethargic these last couple of weeks, and have been sleeping for long hours.

Basil and Rosemary and I drove up to Cleveland in Ohio for a couple of weeks in September, to visit Basil’s brother, who used to be a doctor.

But the weather wasn’t playing along. It was very cold and rainy, which is not ideal weather for me, as you can imagine. In fact, I think I caught a bit of a chill, as I was feeling decidedly ‘under the weather’, as they say. There was a pair of exceedingly lively young twins staying at the house – so Rosemary urged me to keep well clear of them, as she did not want me to get hurt.

Since our return to Winchester, we’ve been taking it very easy, and just chilling around the house and the yard.

Rosemary decided to do some spring-cleaning – though it is technically autumn – and we made piles of things they no longer needed. It seems that Americans like to arrange ‘yard sales’ or ‘garage sales’, where they put on display all the things they no longer want, and people just stop by and buy whatever they want. It’s all very neighbourly and friendly, and you can pick up some very nice items that way.

There was also a wonderful 14-episode series on TV every night called ‘The Roosevelts’. It is a documentary about the lives of Theodore, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, three members of one of the most prominent and influential families in American politics. I learned that Theodore and Franklin were famous US presidents. I sat in Basil’s comfortable reading chair when we were watching it. Sometimes it is good to take it easy for a while. 🙂
