I face some frightfully fierce lions!

02 February 2013

“Do you want to meet The Lions, Flat Kathy?” asked Reggie, with a twinkle in her eyes.

“Umm… Are they very big?” I asked, apprehensively.

“Well, yes, they are, but I’m sure they won’t hurt us,” she declared, confidently. Rather too confidently, I thought to myself. But I wasn’t going to be a ninny, because this is deep dark and wild Africa, after all, so I just said, “Alright then, let’s go!”

We walked down into the Nursery and – there they were!

When I approached the one lion, he growled at me. I leapt backwards in fright. Reggie laughed, and said that it wasn’t a growl, but a purr: “It just sounds so much louder than Tuffy-Cat’s purr because lions are so much bigger,” she said.

I think she was trying to reassure me, but I wasn’t. Reassured, I mean.

Reggie snuggled up to the other lion, and made me get really close to the other one for the photo. I actually felt the rumble of his deep purr growl all the way through the soles of my feet foot! But then I wasn’t sure if it was because he was hungry and hadn’t been fed yet, so we quickly said goodbye…

    1. That’s a very healthy attitude, Rosie Bear. I hadn’t thought of barking at them… Maybe I’ll try that next time one growls (sorry – Reggie said it was only *purring*!) at me. (I know better… It was hungry and starting to salivate. I wasn’t taking any chances.)

  1. These lions look just like the lions Curvy Kathy saw at her son’s wedding. Our lions didn’t growl, though. I don’t think they did. Perhaps I wasn’t paying attention.

    1. I think you were probably distracted by all the wedding excitement, Curvy Kathy. And perhaps they had just been fed some wedding cake, and weren’t all that hungry.

Ours were definitely growling… *purring!!!*… (sorry, that was Reggie refusing to type what I was dictating, oh dear…)
