“Do you want to meet The Lions, Flat Kathy?” asked Reggie, with a twinkle in her eyes.
“Umm… Are they very big?” I asked, apprehensively.
“Well, yes, they are, but I’m sure they won’t hurt us,” she declared, confidently. Rather too confidently, I thought to myself. But I wasn’t going to be a ninny, because this is deep dark and wild Africa, after all, so I just said, “Alright then, let’s go!”
We walked down into the Nursery and – there they were!
When I approached the one lion, he growled at me. I leapt backwards in fright. Reggie laughed, and said that it wasn’t a growl, but a purr: “It just sounds so much louder than Tuffy-Cat’s purr because lions are so much bigger,” she said.
I think she was trying to reassure me, but I wasn’t. Reassured, I mean.
Reggie snuggled up to the other lion, and made me get really close to the other one for the photo. I actually felt the rumble of his deep
purr growl all the way through the soles of my feet foot! But then I wasn’t sure if it was because he was hungry and hadn’t been fed yet, so we quickly said goodbye…
